TOM WHITTLE 5’10” “STONY CREEK” BAMBOO FLY ROD Elegant little rod by Tom Whittle of PA.  Whittle’s cane rod building was influenced by Vincent Marinaro and George Maurer.  He and Bill Harms wrote the excellent book on Marinaro, Split and Glued by Vincent  C. Marinaro.  This rod carries serial number 64-01, and is marked for a 4wt.  Casts a 4wt. or a 3wt. for me.  Features sliding band reel seat over hardwood, 5 ½” cork, no hook keeper, Mildrum stripper, bright snakes, Super-Z style ferrules, bag with a strip of cane for a stiffener, and a shop-built hexagonal maple case built by Whittle, which dates the rod in 2013.  I photographed the rod with an Orvis CFO III to show that the proportionally small reel seat accepts conventional-size reels without difficulty.
