Like in all other ocean areas, successful fishing is partly dependent on the season, the weather and wind conditions. COASTAL SEA TROUT The sea trout can be found all along the Kristiansand coast both just a short walk from the city centre or either via bus, taxi or car. Fishing for this species is free for all ages in the sea but be aware that all sea trout of 35cm and smaller must be returned unharmed by law. SALMON FISHING Kristiansand boast three rivers that during the salmon fishing season of 1st of June to 31st August can be fished for salmon. The water level controlled Otra which runs through the city of Kristiansand, the wild and untouched spate Tovdalselva river, and lastly the small and intimate spate river Søgne og Sogndalselva. Fishers under 16 yrs need both the national license for migratory fish fiskeavgiften and a local river license that can be bought either online or at Grønberg Sport. FISHING SEASONS: COD: Feb/June and Aug./December are the best months, although cod may be fished all year round. MACKEREL: Midsummer's Eve to September. POLLACK AND COLEY: May to September (Coley all year long). SEA TROUT: Can be caught from land and from a boat all year round. EQUIPMENT: DEEP DRAGGING LINE: A relatively thick fishing line with a heavy sinker and several hooks attached. JIG: A piece of equipment with a big, heavy spinner resembling a Coley attached, which serves as a combination of bait and sinker. HARP: Used when a boat is drifting with the current or during trolling. This fishing line is most commonly equipped with worm-like hooks, some silvery spinners and a lead weight. RIGLE: A type of harp where the worm-like hooks and spinners have been replaced by ordinary hooks.
